New Image for Showroom Shanghai 17AW Collection Exhibition to Create a Headline IP in the Industry

Going into its third year, the 2017 A/W collection exhibition, owned by Showroom Shanghai, will run on the first floor of the West No.1 Hall of Shanghai Exhibition Center from April 8-11, 2017.

After three years of practice, Showroom Shanghai, which made its debut on April 13, 2014, has been clear about its own position—focusing on emerging high- and medium-end fashion brands with business development potential through the lens of independent designers, thus making it a catalyst for consumption upgrading of the Chinese fashion industry.

In the run up to its third birthday celebration, Showroom Shanghai is significantly upgrading its image by staging its show at Shanghai Exhibition Center, a downtown historic building. Nearly doubling its floor size, the new show will reach 3,600sqm, with an enlarged public area to enhance the viewers’ experience. Here, the most potential emerging fashion brands are bound to have a dialogue with this magnificent historic building across time.

The venue is designed by Mr. Hong Renjie, a young architect who has paid a special visit to distinctive buildings along linong (lanes and alleys) near the Shanghai Exhibition Center, such as Simingcun, Mingdeli and Changde Apartment. Instead of attempting to replicate traditional commercial space, he “tried to break free from stereotypical patterns, and convert and integrate thickened walls, roads and neighborhood scale into the venue.”

Apart from a whole-new image, Showroom Shanghai, in partnership with Shanghai Fashion Week, positions itself as the official show. It is the hope of Showroom Shanghai to deepen cooperation with Shanghai Fashion Week, one of the most powerful platforms in China, to focus on local market.

The 2017 A/W collection exhibition will bring together more than 70 brands, including more emerging brands than ever. With the all-time largest scale since its inception, Showroom Shanghai will supposedly offer a brand new visual feast. Moreover, brands of lifestyle and accessory categories will be another highlight of this show, catering for the increasing market demands for accessories.

In addition, this year’s show will work with JIEMIAN.COM to hold six high-end industry forums titled “New Order” at the venue. The professional young team of editors and journalists from the fashion section at JIEMIAN.COM consistently come up with unique perspectives and ideas, which highly aligns with the altitude of Showroom Shanghai. The forums will invite leading industry professionals to discuss how to accomplish the upgrading of domestic brands and better build a new normal for the future amid a new commercial and media communication environment.

Showroom Shanghai 2016 AW

From April 11 to 15 2016, Showroom Shanghai 2016 Antumn & Winter Fashion Show will be once gain open to the public at Xintiandi, which is within a stone’s throw from the venue of Shanghai Fashion Week.

In April 2014, Showroom Shanghai came out into being, becoming a bridge between domestic designers, brands and select shops nationwide. In only two years, as showrooms grew exponentially in Shanghai, Showroom Shanghai stands firm as the number 1 brand among its peers for its outstanding performance. Redefined by its three founders, Showroom Shanghai has now transited from purely the bridging function between designers, brands and retail terminals to a booster of consumption upgrading in fashion industry in China, resonating with “individualistic fashion”, “online and offline interaction” as well as “furtherance of entity commerce innovation and transformation” mentioned in the Government’s Work Report by Premier Li Keqiang.

Thus, the most important milestone during the development of Showroom Shanghai is the establishment of its spin-offs. As the first subsidiary of Showroom Shanghai, Stron aims to provide targeted solutions during various stages of the brand. The most basic service is agency service for distribution. Since spring and summer in 2015 onwards, Showroom Shanghai has taken up the role of distributor of Y’s Yohji Yamamoto in China. This camp has spread to embrace multiple brands so far, including Ms MIN, which draws great market attention, and the rising Black Spoon, as well as two dark horses that are to kick off their debut at Showroom Shanghai exhibition: designer brand A Tentative Atelier and designer brand Libai. In addition, Shangxia brand that integrates the experience and capital from Hermes and local craftsmanship tradition will also be navigated by Stron for national distribution.

Each brand has different developing stages, so do their problems. Stron also gets involved in the production, providing more far-reaching and reliable support for the brand by reduction in production cost and improvement in product quality. In view of the imbalance in the evolution and growth within the community of retail terminals throughout the country, Stron is also striving to render consulting service, so as to offer a package of targeted solutions for more and more quality retailors.

To provide e-commerce solutions for the customers of Showroom Shanghai, 2manyshop.com, a web-based online sales platform, will be duly launched during Showroom Shanghai exhibition. This brand new e-commerce model combines ample select shops and brand resources of le showroom as well as international experience of Chinese technical and operation team from net-a-porter. A great number of quality shops that gather numerous international and domestic quality brands are confined by their location of operations. 2manyshops.com is designed to help these quality shops and selected brands and show their goods online, in an effort to break the time and territorial restrictions and make them accessible to the consumers nationwide.

On this occasion when 2manyshop goes online, BAN XIAOXUE, Black Spoon and deepmoss brands will launch their brand zones on 2manyshop and will also start accepting reservations for 2016 Fall and Winter series at the very first time after the show is over, to satisfy the desires of consumers after their long waitings. While Number (N)ine, a vanguard Japanese male fashion brand will duplicate their 2006 classic fall and winter series during the 2016 fall and winter season, and accept reservations from consumers via 2manyshop.

Showroom Shanghai 2017 SS

Showroom Shanghai will hold its 2017 Spring & Summer Fashion Show from October 16 to 19, 2016 at Xintiandi Style. Once again, Showroom Shanghai will stage this fashion show near the main venue of Shanghai Fashion Week to provide the much sought-after locations for interested brands.

The 2017 SS show will witness over 60 brands coming from Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Canada, US and UK, and among them most are local designer brands.

There will be 38 brands making their debut at this show, accounting for over half of all the brands. Compared with last year, the brands this year strike a more conspicuous tone of variety and dynamism, highlighting practicality and suitability for different occasions. Designers are more bent on articulating their ideas by mixing fabrics and alternating compositions in rather simple designs. Meanwhile, the prices of leading products see a slight decline, ranging from RMB 1,200 to 5,000. Co+Co by Coco Rocha founded by super model Coco Rocha is a good example. Fresh from its journey at New York Fashion Week, the brand has wasted no time to hurry to Showroom Shanghai, interpreting its idea of the “sport chic”.

This year, we have made a bold try to introduce more men’s fashion brands to the show, a gesture to address the issue of women’s fashion brands dominating previous sessions. We have partnered the GQ magazine, the firm advocate of men’s fashion brands in China, and invited Sankuanz, Sean Suen, Chuang Qu and Uma Wang to the show. With endorsement of the international perspective of GQ, we aim to explore the possibility of using retail terminals to promote men’s fashion brands, and showcase the talent of China’s pioneering men’s fashion designers to the clients and therefore boost their confidence.

During the last two years, Showroom Shanghai has gradually shifted its focus to further exploration of upstream and downstream industry chains and have, thus, curtailed its efforts in more superficial aspects. The statistics of April this year showed that the number of buyers accounted for 70% and exhibiting brands were able to add 3~10 new clients at each session. It’s fair to say that Showroom Shanghai has achieved the goal of attracting clients at an initial stage, and now moved towards improving performance-based KPI, as well as building reputation for itself and at the retail terminal. In the future, we plan to systematically sort out the retain terminals nationwide and do our homework to connect brands to thousands of buyer stores. We will help brands to develop their target clients and provide value-added services such as training &guidance at retail terminals. On top of all this, there will be concrete measures to take on the persistent issue of the agenda of Shanghai Fashion Week lagging behind the production cycle, and the need for bringing in pre-spring and pre-autumn series.

Showroom Shanghai 2014 AW

As China’s first professional showroom brand, Showroom Shanghai is committed to building a meeting place for fashion designers, media agencies, POS, international buyers and investors. It answers the call of the times. As China’s first professional showroom brand, Showroom Shanghai integrates the industrial chain from fashion designers, media agencies to POS, international buyers and investors. It answers the call of the times.

Showroom Shanghai is a platform for striking deals on clothing purchase and sale in a short term. Usually, our showroom events were chosen to initiate during the periods paralleled with reputable fashion weeks. Having returned from fashion weeks, designers meet buyers and media agencies from all parts of the world at the showroom, where designers’ works can be observed closely and purchase orders can be placed for the next season.

Over the past decade, China’s local fashion brands have witnessed a golden period and buyers from both home and abroad have become increasingly interested in works of Chinese designers. Shanghai Fashion Week has also become an important occasion for international buyers to get to know China’s designer brands. However, order placing remains a gap while fashion week only functions as a platform for display and release. That’s why Showroom Shanghai is founded. Aiming to creating a meeting place for designers, buyers, media agencies and even investors, Showroom Shanghai will play a positive role in promoting the development of Chinese fashion industry .

The first session of Showroom Shanghai, which comes on April 13-17, 2014 coinciding with the fashion week of Shanghai, will be held at Shanghai Times Square Apartments. Influential designer brands from 25 countries will display 2014 autumn and winter collections in the showroom. Brands such as QIUHAO, BANXIAOXUE, YIFANG WAN and SANKUANZ will also be spotted on the stage of Shanghai Fashion Week.

Following the showroom held at Shanghai Times Square Apartments, we will launch an online showroom program. Besides, the second session of Showroom Shanghai, which is expected to come this October, will witness more international brands and buyers.

We hereby sincerely invite all people of the fashion circle to our showroom. American Rag Present at Showroom Shanghai: Date First and Marriage Later

Mark Werts, the founder of internationally famous American Rag, showed up at the second session of Showroom Shanghai and gave his two cents for designers who desire to shoot for the stars on the international arena.Showroom Shanghai saw remarkable progress and significant growth after two sessions. Apart from exploring the infinite potentials of the domestic market, Showroom Shanghai attracts more and more international buyers discovering the charm of “Made in China”. While the hard data like traffic, sales and orders are soaring, Showroom Shanghai never forgets to let designers of independent brands to hear the voices from the retails front and international market.

This time we invited the founder of American Rag, Mark Werts to talk about his trip to Showroom Shanghai, in the hope that his suggestions would be helpful for designers desire to shoot for the stars on the international arena.

About American Rag: It was founded in 1984 by Mark Werts, who is considered one of the retailing businessmen that is most innovative and trend-setting in America. The first shop of American Rag was opened in San Francisco in 1984, followed closely by another in Los Angeles. In 2006, the third shop, together with World Denim Bar, was opened in Newport Beach. Over the past three decades, American Rag has become the final destination for musicians, actors, designers and numerous fans of special brands, and American Rag was repeatedly rated as one of the top fashion shops in the US by GQ, Esquire and other magazines.

Q:What are your opinion and comments on Showroom Shanghai?

A:It’s a pleasant trip, and the overall environment in Shanghai was greatly improved, and it demonstrates the image of an international fashion metropolitan. The fancy city has now become a counterpart of Paris, New York or London. Surrounding Shanghai Fashion Week site are the youth holding stylus who appear to be editors, designers or media workers. Besides, there are people in various fashions make street photographers busy with their cameras. The taste and style of people here are changing. I really like Showroom Shanghai and everyone here is so friendly and willing to talk.

Q:How do you compare Showroom Shanghai and other foreign trade shows you have participated? What do you think the future improvement should be?

A:The organizer of the trade show is very professional, the number and scale of designers are subject to easy management. It would be more perfect if there were coffee bars and meeting sections in the show area.

Though designers joining in the show are nice and friendly, and their brand qualities are enhanced rapidly, there are difficulties to overcome before cooperation can be started. They should have definite wholesale price and standards that fit into international trade show. In addition, the minimum order is set too high as most of the participants are not big names. I know this has something to do with the production, however, if they are to work with international buyers, and develop a mature local market, these problems need to be solved.

I like to say that marriages are not expected to get sealed upon first meeting. There are dates one after another, then seeing each other’s parents… after all of these, a couple could finally get to the “ring” part. I’m trying to say that cooperation starts from small orders, and then we will see what happens next. The price is also higher than my expectation. I am not running a museum for collections; I am selling stuff to my customers. Concerning price and design, a young designer has to be acute in commercial awareness. Many designers want to be the next Rei Kawakubo; however it’s difficult to come to deal with such an attitude as one on a trade show.

Q:What are the great international trade shows from your point of view?

A:Las Vegas (fashion show), Florence (male fashion show), Paris International Fashion Designer Show , Maison & Objet Paris. As for Asia, I think your show and The Hub in Hong Kong are great ones.

Q:What are your favorite brands from Showroom Shanghai? What are brands, especially foreign ones, would you like to recommend to be included?

A:Of course, I found some interesting designers and I hope to introduce them to our shop in Los Angeles and the shop in China which is to be opened soon. Brands such as Skin Art Series, Hui by Eran Hui which reveal the blend of fashion and street style are pretty popular now. Vintage Republic is a promising commercial brand.

Q:Will you be back to the show next year?

A:I found very interesting stuff, I will definitely come. I am excited to come to Shanghai more often in the near future. Our outlet in China will be opened next year and it will show brands from around the world that we like, however, we hope there will be representative Chinese style works from Chinese designers.

Q:Besides American Rag, what foreign brands in your opinion should be included in Showroom Shanghai next time?

A:As a matter of fact, there are not many foreign buyers. Shanghai is mainly a platform for China’s inland , it’s good enough for me though. It’s an opportunity for me because shops back in Los Angeles and a lot of foreign buyers who fix their eyes on other cities have yet to find these excellent designers in China and shops. I am very glad that American Rag, as a representative brand from Los Angeles, made it to Showroom Shanghai.
